She leans against the wall and listens well,
Hearing his voice from the other side,
And wonders, could it possibly tell
That he is real, despite the years’ divide.

“Who are you?” whispers from her parted lips,
As if answers would find her in her sleep,
For when she wakes, his face will not eclipse,
But wait for truths down in her heart so deep.

Heartaches grow strong, the wall grows higher,
And questions still remain yet unfulfilled.
The more she asks, the more she tires
Of cruel dreams that Fate to her has willed.

In sleep she finds that she will have no peace
Until she breaks the wall, and myts’ries cease.

This is an entry for the FanArtPalooza contest for the webcomic The Dreamer, by Lora Innes.

I forget how I found this comic, but I have really fallen in love with it. I love the characters especially, they're just so real, and the story so far is awesome.

Obviously, this is not a fan "art", but a fan "poem". I wrote a Shakespearean sonnet, which I thought would be appropriate because in The Dreamer Beatrice is going to play Juliet in her school's rendition of Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare. A Shakespearean sonnet is 14 lines, with three quatrains and one couplet, in iambic pentameter with an ABAB CDCD EFEF GG rhyme scheme.

For the poem, I focused on Issue 6, Page 15. I know this is a very popular moment in the story, but I like it so much I just decided to go with it myself as well.

One of the awful things about poetry-writing is that (for me, at least), you can't just sit down and be like, "OK, I'm gonna write a poem now!". No, you have to wait for that stupid inspiration to come and be like "POEM TIEM NAOW", whether you like it or not.

I finally managed to squeak this out. It might change by the end of the contest (which is the 15th of July), which I hope is all right, Lora.

Great work Ruan! I can never figure out poems... Iambic Pentameter, quatrain, all the words confuse me xD

Oi. I couldn't agree more. But I think you did a splendid job on this poem.
